From Cape Town to Scandinavia: A Cover Story in Stereo
Danish singer and songwriter Lærke Helene Askholm has recently released two cover versions of songs by South African cult musician Jim Neversink, reinterpreting them through a melodic and dreamlike indiepop lens.

The tracks, “Stay” and “Two Star Ride”, were originally part of Neversink’s acclaimed catalogue blending punk, alt-country and lo-fi rock. In Askholm’s hands, they become softer, atmospheric renditions produced and arranged by Søren Jacobsen — a veteran Danish musician known from bands such as Shubidua and Backseat.

Having returned to recording after a pause, Askholm approaches the covers with emotional clarity and vocal finesse, reshaping the songs without losing their original spirit. Neversink himself has praised the result: “I am absolutely blown away by everything… Everything is 100% perfect and more importantly 100% cool.”
Jim Neversink, now based in Denmark, remains a distinctive voice in alternative music, with a devoted following from South Africa to Europe. Askholm’s new interpretations serve as both tribute and transformation — bridging continents, genres and generations through sound.
